A Square Rigged ship has rectangular sails which set roughly perpendicular to ("square to") the keel of the ship. They are carried on large horizontal spars called yards. The outermost tips of those are called yardarms. When the sun is higher in the sky that the yardarm it's time for some rum.


These are "classic" ships you'd see in a movie - many have appeared in movies. Most have a small but classic "cabin" in rear suitable for Aubrey & Maturin.
